Abstract

This study aims to analyst the role of the humanities in achieving sustainable development, focussing on the Libyan context as a context facing complex political, social and economic challenges that directly affected the development path. The study is based on the premise that achieving sustainable development cannot be limited to economic and technical dimensions, but requires integrating the human dimension based on understanding cultural and social values, promoting community participation, building awareness and social justice. The study adopted the descriptive analytical method based on a review of the scientific literature, previous studies and reports of relevant international organisations, with an analysis of the reality of development in Libya in the light of these theoretical frameworks. The study concluded that the poor use of the outputs of humanities in Libyan public policies contributed to deepening the gap between planning and implementation, and weakened society's confidence in development programs. The results also showed that the humanities play a pivotal role in rebuilding social capital, promoting community peace, and

supporting education and good governance, contributing to achieving sustainable development commensurate with the specificity of Libyan society. The study recommends the need to integrate humanitarian research into decision-making, support social and educational studies, and link Libyan development plans to the sustainable development goals from a participatory humanitarian perspective.
