The Israeli presence in the south of the Sahara and potential threats to Libyan national security: the state of the countries

Abstract

      The  peace treaty (Camp David 1978) between Israel and Egypt with full normalization of their relations, as well as the  peace agreement (Oslo 1993)between Israel and the Palestinian Authority for the establishment of a Palestinian state, formed the momentum required for Israel to restore its relations with African countries driven by economic ambitions, and achieve political and strategic gains, to increase the momentum of presence more after 2011 in many African countries, and to play an important regional role in the file of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and in South Sudan, and the Darfur region to implement its strategy of " Peripheral Doctrine " against Arab countries . We witnessed in 2020 the normalization of Sudan, Chad in 2018 and a desire for normalization with Niger . They are the countries of the Libyan sub-Saharan periphery, and they share a common language, religion, history and minorities with Libya.

      And so it is the situation in sub-Saharan Africa, Libya is living in a state of instability, and there are multiple transitional stages without a clear end through a constitutional electoral entitlement leading to stability and clarity of the contours of the political succession for more than a decade ! This highlighted other challenges to Libyan National Security, the most important of which is the lurking of the Israeli enemy, and its presence in the vital regional field of Libya south of the Sahara, and in a number of countries of the African Sahel, which poses several threats to Libyan National Security, and poses a new equation to the Libyan decision-maker, a different enemy imposes a different strategy in dealing and treatment.
