Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to reveal the repercussions of illegal immigration on Libya as a transit country, focusing on the southwest as the most important gateway among several gateways. Although this phenomenon is a global phenomenon, it has taken a dangerous turn in Libya and has become a source of concern not only for those in charge of the country’s policy but also for the population. This is due to political chaos as one of the important factors, which in turn has led to fragility in security and lack of border control. Which made Libya an easy transit country to reach the desired destination. This issue is supported by the lack of response from the countries exporting immigration in sub-Saharan Africa, especially since it is the source of illegal immigrants who cross southwest Libya. Thus, the importance of this study is evident through its discussion of the issue of illegal immigration and tracing its paths from its sources to its end points and the resulting security, economic and social effects even on transit countries. This issue is what made the country face major challenges, especially after smugglers were able to understand the loopholes that enable them to practice their work with ease. The most important of these gaps is the division at the political level, which took a long time to resolve, and the preoccupation of those in charge with resolving this issue, during that period if waves of illegal immigration become active. In short, the phenomenon of migration places transit and settlement countries facing challenges that must be addressed before they lead to something greater, especially if we know that the migration of immigrants is nothing but a translation of the difficult reality they live in their countries of origin.
