Abstract
Research Abstract.
This study examines the phenomenon of media illusion in the age of artificial intelligence and its impact on shaping Libyan public opinion, within the context of rapid digital transformations in the media landscape. The advancement of AI-driven content production has significantly enhanced the ability to simulate reality, producing media content that is often difficult to distinguish from authentic information.
The study aims to identify the nature of media illusion, assess the level of exposure of the Libyan audience to AI-supported content, and explore the role of digital algorithms in content curation. It also seeks to measure the impact of these factors on public opinion formation, evaluate the level of media literacy among the audience, and highlight the role of media education in mitigating this phenomenon.
The findings reveal a high level of awareness among respondents regarding the presence of misleading media content, along with significant exposure to AI-generated content characterized by realism and persuasiveness. The results also indicate a prominent role of digital algorithms in shaping and reinforcing content through repetition, thereby influencing public opinion. Conversely, the study identifies a relatively low level of media literacy, alongside strong agreement on the importance of media education as an effective tool to counter media illusion.
The study concludes that media illusion represents a significant challenge in the Libyan digital environment, requiring coordinated efforts from educational institutions, media organizations, and policymakers to enhance media literacy and regulate the use of artificial intelligence technologies of the public from media misinformation.
