Abstract
Abstract:
This study examines the relationship between the proliferation of smartphone technology and the subsequent transformations within traditional media outlets. It focuses on the impact of this technology on public media consumption habits, as well as the strategies adopted by traditional media to address this growing challenge. The research is driven by a central question: To what extent has the spread of smartphone technology influenced the strategies of traditional media, and how can these outlets adapt to digital shifts to maintain their efficacy and sustainability?
The findings indicate that the widespread adoption of smartphones has catalyzed a fundamental shift in audience behavior. Consumption patterns have transitioned from collective, scheduled viewing—typical of television and radio—to a flexible, individualized model that allows access to content regardless of time or location. Furthermore, these smart devices have bolstered reliance on instantaneous digital content characterized by speed and continuous updates, leading audiences to favor digital platforms over traditional media. Consequently, traditional media outlets have experienced a significant decline in viewership and engagement due to the immediacy imposed by digital platforms. The criteria for evaluating media success are no longer limited to the size of the audience; rather, they have become intrinsically linked to the degree of interaction and engagement facilitated by content across digital media.
