This research highlights the significance of integrating environmental sustainability into contemporary interior architecture through the rediscovery and development of local natural materials. The study successfully provides innovative solutions to the limited design utilization of natural rock salt—originally caused by its fragile nature and high sensitivity to moisture—by treating it with epoxy resin.
Utilizing laboratory-based experimental methodology on salt samples from the 'Abu Kammash' region, the study demonstrates the feasibility of producing stable and durable hybrid panels. These panels exhibit superior optical and aesthetic properties, including light permeability and diverse crystalline textures and colors. The application of these salt panels extends beyond achieving flexible formal and decorative rhythms, such as partitions and wall claddings within the interior space; it also positively impacts both the psychological and physiological dimensions of the user. The material dynamically releases negative ions and purifies indoor air, thereby reducing stress and supporting the concepts of 'therapeutic architecture' and biophilic design
