Abstract:
The study of archaeological sites is one of the most effective studies in clarifying and understanding the rich cultural heritage and legacy left behind by our ancients, a legacy we are proud of among nations. We study it to showcase the beauty, antiquity, and authenticity of our beloved Libya among past civilizations, and its effective role in reviving global tourism.
Archaeological excavations can be defined as excavation and exploration work carried out by a number of researchers specialized in the field of archaeology to uncover antiquities buried underground, record their descriptions and forms, preserve and restore them to deduce their history, with different types of excavations, including selected excavations, comprehensive excavations, rescue excavations and training excavations, the subject of our discussion. This research paper deals with a preliminary report on the excavation and exploration work for antiquities at the archaeological site of Al-Jadidah, located on the western edge of the ancient city of Sabratha, as part of the training program for students of the Department of Archaeology at the college, based on what has been studied during the past years of study courses. This is the main goal of the excavation, the results of which resulted in the discovery of many fixed and movable archaeological discoveries, as well as an attempt to discover new sites to be added to the list of previous archaeological sites.
