Abstract
Research Summary:
This research aims to analyze the reality of media education in Libyan universities and its role in achieving sustainable development, in light of the major transformations occurring within higher education and the media sector in Libya, as well as the growing demands of the labor market. The study affirms that Libyan universities rely on scientific foundations in preparing media professionals capable of supporting sustainable development plans; however, several challenges continue to hinder their effectiveness, including:
- The findings indicate that media education in Libyan universities suffers from weaknesses in quality and infrastructure, which reduces its capacity to prepare graduates capable of professional practice and keeping pace with global media developments.
- The results show a clear gap between academic curricula and labor market requirements, particularly in practical digital skills and modern technological competencies.
- The study highlights the essential role of media education in supporting sustainable development by enhancing societal awareness and preparing qualified media professionals capable of driving change and contributing to progress.
- Universities face challenges such as limited financial resources, insufficient equipment, reduced training opportunities, and weak implementation of quality assurance standards.
- The research recommends updating and developing academic curricula and programs, and establishing training programs for faculty members and support staff to strengthen their contribution to sustainable development.
