Abstract

Abstract:

This research addresses how the electronic newspapers "Al-Sabah" and "Al-Hayat" in Libya covered the disaster of Hurricane Daniel, which struck eastern Libya in September 2023. The study focused on analyzing the content of the two newspapers during the period from September 11 to November 11, 2023, using the descriptive method and gatekeeping theory. The study found that the two newspapers took a positive stance towards the disaster, emphasizing reconstruction and internal aid. The newspapers primarily relied on news agencies and official sources, employing an emotional approach in their coverage, with a focus on human values. The study recommended the need for interpretive and analytical coverage of disaster-related issues, adherence to professional and ethical standards, and the establishment of clear plans for dealing with crises and disasters.
