Abstract:
This study aimed to identify the mental image of the performance of the Libyan government among university youth, and their view of its performance in terms of the ability to deal and address crises, issue and implement decisions, and the extent of its provision of basic services to the Libyan citizen, in addition to identifying the extent to which demographic factors influenced the respondents in forming the mental image of the interim government. The study relied on the descriptive approach, which is widely used in media studies, using the questionnaire as a tool for collecting information, which included 20 questions with 82 items on a sample of students from the Academy of Graduate Studies in the Eastern Province. The intentional sample was chosen from three colleges (Media - Law - Political Sciences) where the number of sample members reached 175 students for the academic year (2020-2021). The validity and accuracy of the respondents’ answers to the questions asked in the questionnaire were verified through close follow-up by the researcher. After that, the data and answers of the respondents were entered into the computer and the program was used. Spss in extracting percentages and frequencies, and the study reached a set of results, the most important of which are: that the goal of an excellent mental image of the government contributes to improving the image of the country among the Libyan citizen, and that social media is one of the most widely used means of presenting news about the government among young people, as well as The study showed that poverty and political division had a significant impact on distorting the image of the Libyan government.
