ABSTRACT
Art is an expression of human creativity and imagination. It can take various forms and is a means of expressing feelings, ideas, and personal experiences. Art can be an aesthetic experience that evokes emotions and impressions in the viewer and is a means of communication between people and cultures. It is a creative experience that allows artists to experiment with new ideas and techniques. It is also an expression of identity, culture, and personal values. The structural principles of artwork, which must be followed to create an effective and engaging artwork, include line, shape, color, texture, and space. At the same time, the principles of artwork represent how the artist uses the elements of art to create an impact on the viewer and to help convey what the artist wants to communicate. This research focuses on the structural composition of artwork and its expressive connotations in some of the artworks of Henri Matisse, who focused on abstraction and innovation in his works, using shape and color in an innovative way and expressing positive emotions such as happiness, vitality, and peace. He also highlights freedom and liberation from the traditional rules of art. He also expresses nature through colors and shapes, finding inspiration in them, and through the use of decorative and symbolic elements that reflect his influence from other cultures, demonstrating his interest in them. Through these aspects, Matisse expresses his artistic and philosophical vision, sometimes evoking mystery. He aims to arouse emotions and thought, express and signify feelings, and break away from the traditional rules of art. Matisse used bright, rich colors to create an atmosphere of happiness and vitality. With brilliant colors, simplicity, and decoration, this demonstrates how the artist extracted decorative values, bright and pure color spaces, and form to create unique and innovative compositions. Matisse used composition to create artworks based on balance and harmony, and abstraction to create artworks based on form and color rather than realistic representation. The paintings of the French artist Matisse were distinguished by harmonious relationships. Matisse wanted to express his own world and his feelings that were awakened by the colors in a state of clarity and purity in which he preserved the decorative values through a spatial pattern; rather, he preserved the overall arrangement of the picture in a state of clarity and purity in which he preserved the decorative values through a spatial pattern; rather, he preserved the overall arrangement of the art work.
