Abstract:
The study generally aimed to define the professional and ethical standards of electronic journalism. It relied on a descriptive approach. The study is considered a theoretical study that relies on a library approach relevant to the subject of the study, through reviewing published and unpublished academic theses, studies, scientific research, and books, in addition to the international information network.
The study concluded that electronic journalism still experiences a degree of ambiguity. This is due to the fragility of the structure of professional ethics due to the lack of legal controls that define its context. This is in addition to the lack of hierarchical strictness from the editorial board of newspapers. This may be due to the pursuit of journalistic scoops, even if it comes at the expense of professional and ethical standards. It can be argued that the lack of commitment to professional ethics by electronic newspapers may be due to several reasons, including the small number of employees in electronic journalism and the low financial return received by journalists.
Keywords: Professional and ethical standards, profession, electronic journalism.
